Zoom multi-effects pedals

Has anyone tried any of the multi-effects processors made by Zoom? I've heard electric string players recommend them, and I can get a big discount on one from the retail store where I teach, so I'm saving up to buy one. But before I do that, I'd like to hear from some people who use them.

I'm specifically interested in the processors with the tube preamps in them, the G7.1ut and the G9.2tt. My amp is solid state, and I'd love to get a tube distortion without buying a new head for my speaker cabinet.

I've got a six-string Ned Steinberger cello, and it sounds really good with my Boss effects pedals, but as I said, I want to get a tube distortion. If I bought one of these multi-effects processors, I could get that along with lots more effects. I'm guessing that it would sound as good or better than my Boss pedals.

Thanks,
Dean

Zoom multi-effects pedals

Hi Dean,

I haven't tried them personally, but the bassist in my group just got one and he loves it! I'm not sure what model it is, but he's pretty thrilled at all the possibilities. If you can get a good deal, I'd say go for it.

I have an old Boss multi effects, but discovered I was only using 2 or 3 effects consistently so I switched over to individual stomp boxes.

Thanks, that's really encouraging! I need to wait for another paycheck or two before I buy one, but I'll let people know what I think after I get it.

Thanks again,
Dean

Hey Dean ,

I know you made your original post a long time ago, but I was wondering if you ever did get your Zoom effects pedals, and if so, how do you like them?

I am specifically interested in the Zoom A2 Acoustic Effects pedal, to use with my acoustic cello and Realist pickup. If you have any input it would be much appreciated!

Actually, no, I never got it. After talking to some guitarists, they convinced me to avoid digital pedals altogether. Instead, I bought some Boss stomp boxes and, very recently, an AMT Electronics SS-20 tube preamp. Even though the Zoom pedal would give me more effects than my Boss pedals, I like my current setup because of the great degree to which I can customize each effect.

I really think that you won't go wrong with the Zoom A2 unless you're a tone purist like my guitarist friends are. The real advantage to pedals like it is the large number of effects that are readily available (as far as I see, that is).

Did you consider the Zoom A2.1u? Its balanced direct out for a PA and USB port for making recordings could come in really handy.
