Seeking Eric Jensen

Help! Does anyone have any idea what happened to Eric Jensen? Here's my story: About 10 years ago I went to Eric Jensen's home/workshop in Seattle, where he makes electric bowed instruments, and ordered a cello. Six months later it arrived on my doorstep and proved to be an audio as well as a visual delight.

That was easy. The difficult part is that in October 2005 I ordered a cello performance stand that Jensen also makes, on which I would be able to play my cello while standing up. Along with the order, I enclosed for full payment a $220 check that was cashed in less than a month. Now, more than a year later, I still have received no performance stand AND no communication from Jensen. Though his Web site is still up and seems to receive e-mail, no response has come to the 5 or 6 e-mails that I've sent there. Similarly, I've received no response to several phone messages that I've left in his voice mail. Most recently, however, it's no longer possible to leave phone messages; that is, the phone just rings until I get tired of listening to it and hang up.

Hommage Symphonique

Here's a press release for a major recording on which I played the cello. Please click on the link for the full story.

On a personal note, I'm thrilled to be on an album by an artist whose music I've been a fan of for years. I am beyond honored to be in the lineup of stellar musicians in this project. The trumpeter is a member of the Springfield Elementary School band in the opening credits of "The Simpsons"! The rest are highly sought-after session players. Me? I just like bowing my big fiddle!

Cello searching

I am considering purchasing a cello, because I would like to learn how to play obviously. However...are these prices reasonable?

Seeking Cellist for 7 piece symphonette

El Radio Fantastique is in search of a cellist. Please check out our music at www.elradiofantastique.com

Thanks, Giovanni

ben sollee

Anyone else out there following the career of Ben. The young ubercellomaestro has been touring with the equally stellar Abigail Washburn and Casey Dreissen. The "surprise" old hand in the Sparrow Quintet has more often than not been Bella Fleck. Ben is also webcasted most weeks on Woodsongs.com. No one is evangelising the cause of New Cello to the masses as well as Ben is.
Listen up, so much talent in someone so young.

Strings

Hi there,
I am looking for special strings for my cello: I want to tune it for quarts, like a piccolo bass: g d a e. So, anybody knows a source where I can find it? I have tried already well known factories like Thomastik, Jargar, Pirastro, D'addario. Any idea?
Thanks in advance,
Peter
Ps: anybody out there improvising on a cello tuned like this?

2006 NDCF.... thoughts from a newcomer

Thought I’d give my impressions of the 2006 NDCF from the perspective of a newcomer. I’m a long time ear player and a fluent jammer on the hammered dulcimer. But I’m not so fluent on the cello although I dearly love it. So it was with great trepidation that I decided to come to the 2006 festival…. My first time. To put things in perspective, assuming there were about 50 cellists there, that is about 10X the number of cellists I have ever met in my life! And with 1.5 exceptions, those that I have met have all been strictly sight readers of classical music. I play folk…. Celtic, old tymey, Scottish, a bit of Chinese, American contra dance music, etc. I had no idea what to expect at a cello only festival.

HELP!

Does anyone know who provided the cellos at the festival? Like a dummy, I left my favorite mute and handmade bow quiver on my rental :(

I've Emailed Chris but I suspect he is traveling at present.

I've also called all the shops in town I could find and no one says they were the one. ??

Boy Howdy!

I'm new here and so glad I found you all. I'm 42, want to take up cello for my own pleasure. The rub is, I'm not a big classical music freak...I grew up listening to Dylan, The Who, Talking Heads, Ramones, etc.. I'm still into the "rock" stuff. I find that on the internet and in music stores, I run into cello snobs and it just turns me off! If anyone knows of an open-minded teacher in southern California ( pref. in the Pasadena area ) please let me know. Thanks for being there!!
Trudy
ps. I can play guitar and read for piano.
